Children of John & Annie

Annie gave birth to 8 children. All of them, except for one, reached adult age.
Ann Goodbrand (born 1864) died at the age of 1 year from pertussis.

James Goodbrand, their eldest son (born 1863), married Jane McIntosh on the 25th of January 1895 at Whitehills. He was probably an illiterate, as he signed the protocol with an X. He worked as a fisherman. Only one child from this marriage is found recorded: James Goodbrand, born on the 13th of May 1896. Unfortunately James died at the age of 7 of bronchitis. Later on James and Jane adopted a son named Michael. James Goodbrand died on the 22nd of March 1937 at Kingswell Lane, Banff. Cause of death was hemiplegia, hypostatic pneumonia. He reached the age of 78. Jane died one year later, on the 18th of April 1938 at 11 Bartlet Place, Banff. Cause of death: cardiac disease, dropsy. She was 78 years old.

Jessie Goodbrand (born 1867) married George Findlay, fisherman, on the 8th of September 1893 at Whitehills. James, born on the 12th of January 1901 at 51 St. Catherine Street, Banff. John, born on the 26th of December 1902, and Jessie, born on the 22nd of October 1905. When Ann’s sister (my grandmother) Maggie Jane suddenly died in 1923, Ann took care of my 4 year old mother. Ann died at the age of 77 on the 3rd of May 1947 at 11 Bartlett Place, Banff. Cause of death was bronchitis.

Jane Goodbrand (born 1873). According to my mother Jane married an American man by the name Townsend, and settled in the United States. She had 3 children - Jack, Bella (Isabella) and Mina (Williamina). Bella married twice (1. Slater 2. LeMay) and had one daughter - Nora. Mina married a man named Hendry, and had three children. The two oldest boys were William and James.

John Goodbrand (born 1875) married Maggie Watson on the 4th of October 1910 at Whitehills. He was a fisherman. They had 3 children. Maggie Goodbrand (my grandmother) (born 1881) married my grandfather George Gault on the 18th of December 1906 at Whitehills. George was 31 and Maggie 25. Maggie gave birth to 4 children. George was born on the 3rd of October 1908 at 51 St. Catherine Street. Frank on the 29th of December 1909, Alick at the 9th of September 1913 at 1 Fountain Street, and my mother Jessie on the 18th of August 1919, also at 1 Fountain Street. Tragically their two elder sons died from nephritis uraemia. George died at the age of 19 on the 28th of July 1928 at Chalmers Hospital in Banff, Frank was 17 when he died the year after on the 10th of May 1927. Their mother Maggie had died already on the 10th of October 1923 at Chalmers Hospital at the age of 42. Cause of death was haematemesis. My mother had just turned 4.

The Gaults: Alick (my uncle), Jessie (my mother) (For further information about the Gaults - see the Gault-page).

The Townsends: Jack, Bella, Mina (I have not yet traced the descent of this branch of the family).

The Goodbrands: Alexander John, James (Jim), Annie (Nancy) I met Nancy and her family and her bachelor brother Jim during my stay in Scotland in the summer of 1967. Nancy and Jim were among my mother's favourite cousins, together with Maragaret (Maggie) Findlay, whom I also paid a visit.

To trace further descendants I refer to this PDF-file . To open this file you need a program called Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded for free from the Internett. After printing out the familytree, it will look very confusing and difficult to read. What you do is to cut the pages at the bottom at the end of the heavy black lines, and attach this page to the following (so the lines fit). It will then become a roll, and it will be easier to trace the different generations by following the right line. Some of the latest generations will still be incomplete, but I am working on it! Good luck!
